About Donzi Marine
Some products are destined for greatness from the start - the Chevrolet Corvette, Harley Davidson motorcycle, and Donzi boats. It’s been said that everything is in the genes, so maybe it’s no surprise Donzi boats have become an icon of what makes America so great, given that Don Aronow is the father of the Donzi. Aronow, a legendary figure in the boating industry who was tragically taken well before his prime, founded the firm in 1963. A retired retired building contractor by the age of 30, Aronow had retired to Miami, where he developed an interest in boating that soon developed into a passion for offshore powerboat racing. Legend has it that the inspiration for the firm’s name was the charismatic Aronow being referred to by a woman as “Donsy baby”. Applying the knowledge gained as one of the first to build boats using fiberglass – which was then an unknown material – and his successful first boat building company, Formula boats, he had become a noted figure in international offshore powerboat racing. Aronow opened the Donzi factory on 188th Street in North Miami – a street that would become known as Thunderboat Row, famous for the boat building companies sharing the address – Magnum, Donzi, Formula, Cigarette – all notably founded by Aronow. Despite the short period Aronow owned Donzi, he nevertheless created a number of notable designs, such as the Ski Sporter 16, St. Tropez 19, and the 28 Sportsman, in the process setting a tone of high performance and quality craftsmanship that continues to the present.
